Matukonis to become Deputy Commander of Lithuanian Riflemen's Union

Mindaugas Matukonis is set to take on the role of Deputy Commander of the Lithuanian Riflemen's Union, beginning his three-year term on September 3rd. Matukonis, who joined the union as a rifleman in January, possesses the necessary qualifications for the leadership position, including a higher education and a professional military rank of at least major.

The Ministry of National Defence recommended Matukonis for the appointment, citing his professional qualifications, extensive experience in management roles, service achievements, leadership capabilities, and personal qualities. The Lithuanian Riflemen's Union, currently led by Linas Idzelis since 2023, operates under a system where the commander and deputy commanders are appointed by the government for three-year terms.

Currently, the deputy commander positions are held by Laimonas Vaškys and Dovidas Jonušas, both appointed in March 2025. Matukonis's appointment signifies a continuation of the union's leadership structure, with a focus on experienced individuals to guide its operations.
