Mayor Chang's 'Three Arrows' Aim to Make Zhongli a Livable New City Center

Taoyuan Mayor Chang San-cheng is spearheading a development plan aimed at transforming Zhongli into a vibrant and livable urban center. The strategy, dubbed the "three arrows" of transportation, housing, and industry, seeks to accommodate the district's significant population growth.

Zhongli has seen its population rise by 3.65% since 2022, reaching over 439,000 residents by May. In response, the city government is prioritizing infrastructure improvements. This includes extending the MRT Green Line to connect with the Taoyuan Airport MRT at the Zhongli Station, creating a major transit hub. Road network enhancements are also underway, with plans for a new interchange on National Freeway 1 and the widening of roads like Jilin and Yuetao.

Affordable housing is a key component of the plan, with initial projects located near MRT stations A20 and A21. Zhongli already has seven public housing complexes, and the city is expanding options through rental subsidies and other programs. Beyond housing, the city is investing in public amenities such as park renovations, improved school pathways, community centers, libraries, markets, and sports facilities.

The Zhongli Sports Park project, a public-private partnership, is set to include a large indoor stadium, a shopping center, hotel, and commercial offices. The Longgang National Sports Center is expected to open in September, and upgrades are ongoing at the Rakuten Taoyuan Baseball Stadium to enhance fan experience and safety. The city is also advancing cultural and environmental projects, including a new art museum and wastewater treatment facilities, all contributing to a higher quality of life and urban resilience.
