Kylian Mbappe has etched his name in football history by becoming the first player ever to win the FIFA World Cup Golden Boot twice. The French forward achieved this remarkable feat at the 2026 tournament, adding to his previous award from the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Mbappe's latest triumph saw him score an impressive 10 goals across eight matches in the 2026 edition. This tally not only secured him the Golden Boot but also placed him ahead of Argentina's captain, Lionel Messi, in the race for the award. His goal-scoring prowess also saw him become the first player since Gerd Muller in 1970 to score 10 goals in a single World Cup tournament.

With his consistent scoring, Mbappe has further solidified his status as the men's all-time leading World Cup scorer. He now holds 22 career goals, one more than Lionel Messi. This record was extended after he scored twice in France's third-place play-off match against England, a game France ultimately lost 6-4.

Messi had an opportunity to overtake Mbappe in the World Cup final, but he failed to score as Argentina lost 1-0 to Spain. He finished the tournament with eight goals in eight appearances.
