Mbeya MPs push Finance Minister to resolve stalled Sh138 billion dual carriageway

Lawmakers in Tanzania's Mbeya Region have voiced strong concerns to the Finance Minister regarding the delayed Sh138 billion dual carriageway project. The legislators highlighted the severe dust pollution impacting residents, traders, and entrepreneurs, demanding immediate intervention.

Ambassador Khamis Mussa Omary, the Finance Minister, acknowledged the issue and confirmed that Sh9 billion, owed to the contractor, has been disbursed. He issued a directive for construction to recommence immediately and stressed that the government would closely monitor the project's progress, alongside the Kiwira River Water Project, to ensure timely completion.

She emphasized that the road's condition is the primary concern for constituents. Mbeya Regional Chairman Mr. Mwalunenge added that the unfinished road is a constant complaint among residents and traders, leading to soiled goods and increased cleaning burdens for businesses.
