McConnell remains hospitalized, spokesperson says he is improving

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell is still in the hospital, where he is "continuing to improve," his spokesperson stated Thursday. The Kentucky Republican has been hospitalized for over two weeks, first admitted on June 14.

On the same day McConnell was hospitalized, emergency medical personnel responded to his home for a call about an "unconscious person" with "CPR in progress," according to a public EMS dispatch record reviewed by CBS News. The dispatcher also noted the person was "unconscious."

McConnell's team has not confirmed if the EMS call involved the senator, nor have they offered more details about the reason for his hospitalization. "Senator McConnell appreciates the outpouring of support he's receiving while he continues his recovery in the hospital," the spokesperson said. "The Senator continues to improve, and is working closely with his staff on Kentucky and Senate matters while the Senate is out of session."

The 84-year-old senator has experienced several health issues in recent years. He was hospitalized in February for "flu-like symptoms" and spent over a week in the hospital. In 2023, he suffered a concussion after a fall and later appeared to freeze at the podium on two separate occasions. He also sustained minor injuries from another fall in 2024.
