Medellín's 'Pico y Placa' Restriction for August 12, 2026: Check Your Plate

The "pico y placa" traffic restriction remains in effect in Medellín and other municipalities within Colombia's Aburrá Valley on Wednesday, August 12, 2026. This measure, part of the rotation schedule for the second half of the year, limits the circulation of private vehicles, motorcycles, and taxis based on their license plate numbers.

For private vehicles and motorcycles, the restriction applies from 5:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Vehicles with license plates ending in 0 and 2 are prohibited from driving on this day. The same rule applies to two- and four-stroke motorcycles whose plate numbers begin with these digits.

Taxis are also subject to the "pico y placa" program, with vehicles displaying plates ending in 4 being restricted from service between 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., according to the official schedule for 2026. The rotation for private vehicles and motorcycles follows a weekly pattern: Monday (5 and 8), Tuesday (1 and 4), Wednesday (0 and 2), Thursday (3 and 6), and Friday (7 and 9).

Several key routes are exempt from the "pico y placa" restriction. These include the Regional Avenue, the Las Palmas road, and the road to Occidente. Additionally, connections between Avenida 33 and Calle 10 with the Regional, as well as roads within Medellín's five corregimientos (sub-municipal districts), are also exempt. However, the restriction does apply to roads within the city's neighborhoods. It is important to note that while the Regional Avenue is exempt within Medellín, the Autopista Sur in the neighboring municipalities of Bello and Itagüí is not included in the exemption list.
