Megawati Meets South Korean and UAE Ambassadors to Discuss Peace and Cooperation

Megawati Soekarnoputri, the chairwoman of the PDI-Perjuangan party, hosted separate meetings with the ambassadors of South Korea and the United Arab Emirates in Jakarta on July 13, 2026. These discussions highlighted efforts towards peace and strategic cooperation.

During her meeting with South Korean Ambassador Yoon Soon-gu, Megawati, who previously served as Indonesia's fifth president, discussed peace initiatives for the Korean Peninsula. She recalled her past mandate as a peace envoy for Korea, during which she proposed family reunions for those separated by the division of the peninsula and economic cooperation between the two Koreas. Ambassador Yoon acknowledged Megawati's experience and expressed hope that she could serve as a bridge to encourage dialogue between North and South Korea.
