Melbourne CBD Machete Brawl: Four Charged After Two Injured

Melbourne's central business district was the scene of a violent altercation early Sunday morning, resulting in serious injuries and subsequent charges against four young people. The incident, which involved a machete, occurred around 5 a.m. at the intersection of Elizabeth and Flinders streets, near Flinders Station.

Police reported that the brawl began with a verbal dispute between two females. The conflict quickly escalated as others from their respective groups became involved. According to a police spokesperson, one male then brandished a machete and chased two other males, allegedly slashing both. One victim sustained serious injuries to his hand, while the other was injured in the arm.

In total, six individuals, aged between 16 and 23, were arrested in connection with the incident. Of these, four have been formally charged with various offenses. These include committing an indictable offense while on bail, affray, possessing a prohibited weapon, and theft. Notably, a 17-year-old male from Brimbank was charged with intentionally causing injury in circumstances of gross violence, affray, possessing a prohibited weapon, and drugs.

Authorities also issued a caution to a 17-year-old girl for drug possession, and another young woman was released without charge. The investigation remains ongoing, and police are appealing to the public for any information that could assist their inquiries.
