Memoir and AI Study Showcase Resilience Over Institutional Setbacks

Yushau A. Shuaib's recently published works, "MNI versus MNIPR in NIPSS: Tackling Institutional Bullying" and "AI in Crisis Communication in Nigeria: Challenges and Prospects," offer a compelling narrative of resilience and intellectual perseverance. Though seemingly distinct, one a memoir of institutional conflict, the other an academic exploration of artificial intelligence, they function as companion volumes, illustrating how personal challenges can lead to significant contributions.

The memoir, "MNI versus MNIPR in NIPSS," delves into Shuaib's experiences, particularly highlighting his relationship with the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR). A pivotal moment detailed in Chapter Eight, "The NIPR Betrayal," recounts the painful process of appearing before the NIPR Ethics Panel. This occurred shortly after his withdrawal from the Senior Executive Course (SEC) 47 at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru, Nigeria.

Shuaib's connection to the NIPR spans over three decades, beginning during his undergraduate studies in Public Relations at Bayero University, Kano. He was the first recipient of the NIPR President’s Prize for the Best Graduating Public Relations Student in 1992 and was later recognized as the Kano/Jigawa Chapter’s Public Relations Person of the Year in 1995. His academic journey continued internationally with a Master’s degree in Public Relations from the University of Westminster, London, and research in online public relations.

The overarching theme, captured in a reflection from the memoir, is that "Institutions may grant opportunities, but they do not own ideas. Once knowledge becomes a mission, it acquires a life of its own. No withdrawal letter can take that away."
