JAMB leadership transitions after decade of reform and restored trust

After ten years at the helm of Nigeria's Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Is-haq Olanrewaju Oloyede has formally passed the leadership baton to Professor Segun Aina. Oloyede's departure marks the end of a significant era characterized by sweeping institutional reforms, the adoption of new technologies, enhanced financial transparency, and a notable restoration of public confidence in the nation's tertiary education admissions system.

During the handover ceremony in Abuja, Professor Oloyede described the occasion as a moment for both gratitude and reflection. He emphasized that any achievements during his tenure were not personal accomplishments but rather the result of divine guidance and collaborative effort. "I return all glory to Almighty Allah, whose boundless mercy, wisdom and grace sustained me throughout these remarkable ten years," he stated, acknowledging the challenges and difficult policy decisions faced.

I return all glory to Almighty Allah, whose boundless mercy, wisdom and grace sustained me throughout these remarkable ten years. Through periods of daunting challenges, difficult policy decisions and far-reaching institutional reforms, His guidance remained my greatest source of strength. Whatever accomplishments have been recorded during this period are not mine alone; they are manifestations of His infinite favour and blessings.

Reflecting on his leadership, which began on August 9, 2016, Oloyede recalled adopting the theme "Let's Do It Together." He believed strongly in the power of collaboration for institutional success. His administration was built upon five core principles: staff welfare, discipline, technology, transparency, and networking. These pillars formed the foundation for JAMB's transformation.

Oloyede highlighted the administration's significant investment in staff welfare, asserting that an institution's performance is intrinsically linked to the well-being of its personnel. Initiatives included timely promotions, improved working conditions, office renovations and constructions nationwide, substantial contributions to staff retirement savings, and the introduction of benefits such as a 13th-month salary, increased allowances, and daily meals for key operational staff.
