Merida continues stellar form, reaches Montreal Masters quarterfinals

Young Spanish tennis player Daniel Merida continues his impressive run, reaching the quarterfinals of the Masters 1000 tournament in Montreal. This achievement comes just three weeks after Merida secured his first ATP title in Umag.

The 21-year-old, currently ranked 63rd in the ATP rankings, delivered a dominant performance against Tallon Griekspoor of the Netherlands. Merida defeated Griekspoor, who is ranked 69th, with a convincing score of 6-3, 6-1 in just 69 minutes.

This marks a significant career milestone for Merida, as it is his first time advancing to the quarterfinals of a prestigious Masters 1000 series event. Prior to this tournament, Merida had limited experience at this elite level, having played only five main draw matches on the ATP Tour and securing two victories, both earlier this year in Madrid.

With four consecutive wins in Montreal, Merida has surpassed his previous tournament performances. He now awaits the winner of the match between American Learner Tien and Thiago Agustin Tirante of Argentina in the quarterfinals.
