Messi returns to play for Inter Miami

Lionel Messi made his return to Major League Soccer action on Saturday, appearing for Inter Miami in their 2-2 draw with Columbus Crew. The appearance came just two weeks after Argentina's World Cup final defeat.

Messi entered the match in the 53rd minute at the "No More Stadium" in Miami, receiving a warm welcome from the home crowd. Despite his return, the 2022 World Cup winner was unable to mark the occasion with a goal, registering two shots that went wide.

Inter Miami took the lead in the 16th minute through Luis Suárez, who continued his impressive scoring run with his seventh goal in four games. Columbus Crew equalized in the 34th minute after an own goal by Miami's midfielder, the former Manchester United and Real Madrid player, Casemiro.

Suárez then turned provider, assisting Noah Allen for a header that put Miami back in front before halftime. However, Columbus secured a second equalizer in the 84th minute with a stunning free-kick from Bryce Mendes, who was making his debut for the team after joining from Real Sociedad. The draw ended Inter Miami's six-game winning streak but they remain second in the Eastern Conference behind Nashville.
