A Lionel Messi-signed Argentina national team jersey fetched an astonishing $23 million at a recent livestock auction held during the Exposición Rural de Palermo in Argentina. The sale, which gained significant attention, was conducted for a charitable purpose, benefiting Caburé Rugby, an inclusive rugby team based in Río Cuarto.

It was a national team jersey signed by Messi, and Pablo Aimar, a friend of the Mondino family, got it signed.

The jersey was acquired by Sergio Amuchategui, a cattle broker and founder of Rústicos, a series of Angus cattle auctions. The signing of the jersey was facilitated by former player Pablo Aimar, a member of Lionel Scaloni's technical staff for the national team. Aimar, who hails from Río Cuarto, has a close relationship with the Mondino family, who managed the auction.

Caburé Rugby, the beneficiary of the auction, is an inclusive team founded in 2021 for young people with disabilities. The initiative involves former players who connect the youth with the sport. The team has participated in various events and tours across Argentina and is set to represent the country alongside Pumpas XV at the 2025 Mixed Ability World Cup in Pamplona, Spain.

Roberto Mondino, the auctioneer, expressed that "Everyone wanted to collaborate" for the cause. He explained that the idea to auction the signed jersey came about to raise awareness for the rugby team's efforts. The bidding started at $500,000 and rapidly escalated to the final price. Mondino highlighted that the event showcased the solidarity within the agricultural sector and emphasized how Caburé Rugby has built a community where players and their families actively participate.
