Meteorologists warn 5 Lithuanian regions of heavy rain and thunderstorms for Saturday

Lithuanian meteorologists are forecasting a significant shift in weather conditions, with warnings issued for heavy rain and thunderstorms across five regions on Saturday. While Friday is expected to have relatively calm weather with partly cloudy skies and isolated showers, the weekend will bring a more turbulent atmosphere.

A rain-laden cyclone is predicted to reach Lithuania on Saturday. The precipitation will begin overnight in the southern parts of the country and then move across the entire nation. Meteorologists anticipate heavy rain in many areas, accompanied by thunderstorms, particularly in the eastern and southern regions during the day. Strong winds are also expected, with gusts potentially reaching 15-18 m/s, and even higher in coastal areas like the Curonian Spit, where gusts could hit 24 m/s.

Specific warnings for heavy rain have been issued for Saturday night and day in Šiauliai, Panevėžys, Kaunas, Marijampolė, and Alytus counties. Drivers are strongly advised to be extremely cautious, as heavy rainfall can significantly reduce visibility and make road surfaces slippery.

The unsettled weather is expected to continue into Sunday, with variable and windy conditions persisting as the cyclone moves north. Rain is forecast for many parts of the country, with a possibility of thunderstorms. Temperatures will range from 17-22 degrees Celsius during the day. The following week is expected to bring calmer and cooler weather, with rain continuing on Monday before clearing up by Tuesday.
