Metro eliminates transfer at María Montez station for passengers

Commuters on the Santo Domingo Metro traveling from Los Alcarrizos can now bypass the previously mandatory transfer at María Montez station. This significant change, effective immediately, eliminates the need for passengers to disembark and walk between Line 2C and Line 2 to continue their journey.

The transfer at María Montez, located at kilometer 9 of the Duarte highway, had been a major point of contention for passengers on Line 2C. They argued that the process was time-consuming and inconvenient. While the Metropolitan Transport Company (EMT) has yet to issue a formal announcement, expected on Monday, the new system is already operational.

An EMT representative confirmed the elimination of the transfer, stating it is part of the expanded operation and the conclusion of the 'white march' or trial period. It remains unclear whether this change will affect the fare, as Line 2C has been free of charge since its launch in February 2026.

Operational adjustments have also been made to the platform boarding process. Passengers heading towards John F. Kennedy will now use the platform previously designated for Los Alcarrizos, and vice versa. Security personnel and transport staff are actively guiding passengers through these changes via station announcements and on-platform instructions.
