New York Mets rookie pitcher Ji-Man Jeffrey Yan has captured attention not just for his pitching, but for his exuberant jump celebration after strikeouts. Yan, who finally reached the major leagues at age 30 after a decade-long journey, performed his signature celebratory jump on the mound during a game against Cleveland on August 6.

Yan's debut was marked by his energetic displays, including a jump after striking out Angel Martinez, a former teammate in the Dominican Winter League. He repeated the jump after striking out Chase DeLauter with the bases loaded, ultimately preserving a one-run lead. He finished the inning without allowing a run, returning to the dugout with a forceful clap of his glove.

His unique celebration, which includes a hop and a fist pump, has drawn criticism from some opposing fans, who view it as potentially taunting. However, Yan maintains that the celebration is a natural expression of emotion during high-pressure situations and is not directed at any specific player. Yan's path to the majors was arduous. After starting his professional career in 2014, he underwent Tommy John surgery in 2016, leading to his release. For nearly five years, he worked various jobs, including roofing, refrigerator delivery, and landscaping, while continuing to play baseball in amateur leagues. He returned to the minor leagues in 2021 and even played in Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball for the Seibu Lions in 2024. He finally achieved his MLB debut, recording his first career hold in a game the Mets won 6-5 in extra innings. He threw 22 pitches, five of which exceeded 100 mph, with his fastest pitch clocking in at 101.1 mph.
