Mexican mayor sparks controversy with 'good vibe girls' Father's Day invite

The mayor of El Naranjo municipality in central Mexico has ignited a firestorm of controversy with an unconventional invitation to a Father's Day celebration. Mayor Rafael Olvera Torres, in a video posted on social media, invited fathers to a June 19 event, promising comedy, food, drinks, and gifts.

However, the invitation took a provocative turn when Olvera Torres mentioned the inclusion of "good vibe girls" to "liven up the night." He explicitly instructed attendees not to bring children, emphasizing that the event was for fathers to enjoy themselves to the fullest. The mayor also encouraged attendees to bring their own coolers with beverages, assuring them they were welcome.

Adding to the unusual request, Olvera Torres appealed to mothers to grant their husbands permission to attend, promising they would "take care of them" and that the fathers would have a great time. This comes just days before Father's Day, which is celebrated on the third Sunday of June in Mexico, falling on June 21 this year.

The controversy surrounding the mayor's invitation follows closely on the heels of another scandal involving a female mayor in the State of Mexico. Nancy Nápoles Pacheco, mayor of Tenancingo, was accused by state prosecutors of faking her own kidnapping to embezzle funds from the municipal treasury.
