Mexican Navy Seizes Over 1 Ton of Cocaine Off Chiapas Coast, Arrests Eight

Mexican Navy forces intercepted a significant drug shipment, seizing 1.2 tons of suspected cocaine off the coast of Chiapas. The operation, valued at approximately 263.25 million pesos (about $14.6 million USD), aims to disrupt the financial and operational capabilities of criminal organizations.

The Navy reported that the seizure occurred in two distinct actions. In the first, patrols led to the arrest of four individuals and the confiscation of 29 bundles containing 860 packages, weighing about 860 kilograms. The second action involved detecting a smaller vessel with two outboard motors and four people aboard, leading to the discovery of 13 bundles with 384 kilograms of the suspected drug.

Authorities stated that this seizure prevented an estimated 2.4 million doses from reaching the public. The confiscated drugs, vessels, and the eight detainees have been handed over to the Secretariat of Citizen Security and Protection and the Attorney General's Office for further legal proceedings and investigation.

This bust adds to the nearly 74 tons of cocaine secured at sea by the Navy during the current presidential term, highlighting ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region.
