Mexican PRI lawmakers urged to reconnect with voters ahead of 2027 elections

As Mexico's Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) looks towards the 2027 elections, Senator Manuel Añorve Baños has emphasized the critical need for the party's federal legislators to foster closer ties with voters and demonstrate the viability of their governance alternatives. During the PRI's Fifth Plenary Meeting of Federal Legislators, Añorve stressed that maintaining party unity and regaining territorial proximity are essential steps.

Añorve highlighted that these efforts aim to broaden the PRI's understanding of national challenges and strengthen its legislative agenda, which should be built upon governmental experience, specialized analysis, and concrete legislative proposals. He specifically praised Coahuila Governor Manolo Jiménez Salinas for his administration's security strategy. Jiménez reported that Coahuila ranks second nationally in security and has registered only 55 homicides so far this year, attributing this success to unity, territorial work, and effective governance.

He further stressed the necessity of strengthening municipal committees and maintaining consistent territorial work to build competitive and unified candidacies. The plenary session also featured insights from Liébano Sáenz, former private secretary to the Presidency of the Republic, who discussed how government failures can be prevented from escalating into citizen grievances. Sáenz advocated for understanding societal emotions and perceptions to enhance political communication and effectively evaluate governments based on citizen demands. Additionally, specialist Víctor Oléa Peláez addressed the issue of land dispossession, warning about the involvement of organized crime groups and their connections with public officials in this illicit activity.
