Mexican visitors bring 2 billion euros to Madrid

Madrid is experiencing a significant tourism boost from Mexican visitors, who generated an estimated 2 billion euros in economic benefits in 2025. Last year, 650,000 Mexicans visited the Spanish capital, a figure expected to grow by 25% this year, according to Laura Martínez Cerro, Director General of Tourism and Hospitality for the Community of Madrid.

Víctor Moneo, Iberia's Global Director of Sales and Strategic Alliances, confirmed the positive reception of the new Monterrey-Madrid route, which began just a month ago. "The demand is very good. We are very pleasantly surprised that in this first month the Monterrey route is having very good results, even above our initial expectations," Moneo told EFE. The route operates three times weekly with an Airbus A330-200 aircraft, seating 288 passengers.

Moneo also noted Iberia's overall growth, with a 29% increase in passenger volume between Mexico and Madrid from 2019 to 2025. The airline, preparing to celebrate its 100th anniversary, operates 148 of its own routes and 364 codeshare routes, with a fleet of 163 aircraft and plans to expand to 200 planes in the coming years.
