Mexico has secured its spot in the Round of 16 for the 2026 World Cup, triumphing over Ecuador with a 2-0 victory in their Round of 32 match at Mexico City Stadium. The host nation's win was sealed by goals from Julian Quinones and Raul Jimenez.

El Tri demonstrated superior efficiency on the field, despite Ecuador controlling the majority of possession with 57% compared to Mexico's 43%. Mexico capitalized on their opportunities more effectively throughout the match.

From the outset, Mexico pressed their advantage. Raul Jimenez's early header went wide in the seventh minute, followed by a missed rebound opportunity by Gilberto Mora in the 15th. Ecuador came close to scoring in the 18th minute when John Yeboah's shot hit the post.
