Mexico City authorities destroy beer shipment ahead of World Cup final

Mexico City authorities have cracked down on attempts to distribute alcohol during the World Cup 2026 final festivities. The Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) confiscated and destroyed a van loaded with beers that was attempting to enter Paseo de la Reforma, near the Ángel de la Independencia.

The operation was part of the security deployment for the championship match between Argentina and Spain. Police officers intercepted a red van on Hamburgo street in the Juárez neighborhood, finding it filled with beer and ice. These items were subsequently destroyed as per regulations.

The SSC reiterated its strict policy against the consumption and sale of alcoholic beverages in public areas. This prohibition applies to Paseo de la Reforma, the Glorieta del Ángel de la Independencia, the Zócalo Fan Fest, and other football-related gatherings. The confiscation serves as a clear warning to those attempting to circumvent these rules during the high-profile event.
