Mexico City Congress leader resigns, requests indefinite leave

Jesús Sesma, the president of the Board of Directors of the Congress of Mexico City, has requested an indefinite leave of absence from his position. In his farewell remarks, Sesma stated he was leaving satisfied with his accomplishments but acknowledged that some tasks remain unfinished. He expressed hope that those who continue in his role would take up these pending issues, emphasizing that "good causes belong to Mexico City and its people."

Sesma reflected on his tenure, stating that he understood the presidency should not be aligned with a single party, majority, or viewpoint. He strived to make it a presidency "for all." He acknowledged that differences in opinion and intense debates are part of democracy, and the goal is to build upon these differences rather than eliminate them. He extended his sincere gratitude to all political forces represented in Congress, including parliamentary coordinators, his colleagues on the Board of Directors, and all deputies.

He admitted to potentially making mistakes and decisions that could have been handled differently, but asserted with confidence that "work, commitment, dialogue, and the will to care for this Congress never lacked." His departure marks the end of the Permanent Commission, with the ordinary session period set to begin soon.

Following his speech, legislators from Morena, PAN, PVEM, and PRD unanimously commended Sesma Suárez's excellent performance as president of the Board of Directors and wished him well in his future endeavors. Morenistas Brenda Ruiz, Cecilia Vadillo, Yuriri Ayala, Víctor Hugo Lobo, Paulo García, and Emilio Guijosa described his work as "impeccable." Meanwhile, PAN legislators Daniela Álvarez and Olivia Garza highlighted Sesma's consistent willingness to engage in dialogue, his conciliatory spirit, and his effective communication with all deputies.
