Mexico City declares August 'Youth Month' with festivals and awards

Mexico City will dedicate August to its youth, Mayor Clara Brugada announced, with the capital set to host a series of workshops, cultural and sporting activities, and the Festival de las Juventudes from August 13-16 at Utopía Mixiuhca. The initiative aims to increase the visibility of young people and recognize their right to participate in and shape the city.

"An entire month to recognize the right to participate and transform the city; this should drive us to, every day in this city, champion the strength and rights of young people," Brugada stated. She added that the month would include numerous workshops, gatherings, cultural and sporting events, concerts, and bike rides.

During the Mexico City Youth Award ceremony, Brugada highlighted her administration's efforts benefiting young people. These include a transportation subsidy for university students and the launch of the city's first "Affordable Rent Housing" program, which will prioritize young residents and begins this year. The award ceremony itself recognized 19 young individuals aged 12 to 29, each receiving a 23,000 peso grant, with a total of 437,000 pesos allocated for the awards.
