Mexico City Electoral Institute to Repeat Citizen Participation Events in Cuauhtémoc

The Electoral Institute of Mexico City (IECM) will hold repeat elections for the Community Participation Commission and the Participatory Budget in the Cuauhtémoc delegation. These extraordinary elections are scheduled for August 16, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, using the traditional voting method at Opinion Reception Tables.

The repeat elections are for the 2026 Community Participation Commission and the 2026 and 2027 Participatory Budget consultations in the Vista Alegre neighborhood. In San Simón Tolnahuac, the Participatory Budget election will also be repeated. Opinions submitted during the early voting period from April 20 to April 30, 2026, whether through the SEI mobile app or collected from bedridden individuals, caregivers, and those in preventive detention, will remain valid. Early opinions submitted via printed ballots will also be preserved, eliminating the need to use the SEI for the extraordinary vote.

This decision follows court orders from the Electoral Tribunal of Mexico City, which addressed controversies surrounding the original vote. During the May 3, 2026, election, incidents occurred in Vista Alegre where voting urns were violently removed. In San Simón Tolnahuac, an individual stole urns from a reception table, forcing the suspension of voting. Criminal investigations were initiated by the Specialized Prosecutor's Office for Electoral Crimes in Mexico City.
