Mexico City Green Party deputies unveil legislative agenda focused on environment, social welfare

The Green Party parliamentary group in Mexico City's Congress has laid out its legislative agenda for the upcoming session, focusing on four core pillars: the environment, territorial planning, and animal welfare; security and justice; economy and economic development; and social well-being.

Among the party's top priorities are reinforcing environmental policies, championing the protection of animals as sentient beings, fostering a culture of respect and care, and advancing proposals for sustainable urban and economic development. Deputy Jesús Sesma expressed confidence in the party's impact, stating, "The best of this Parliamentary Group is yet to come. We have one year to demonstrate with actions that the PVEM is an indispensable force for the City; people do not expect speeches from us, they expect solutions."

Sesma also announced he would be taking a leave of absence, with Javier Ramos Franco stepping in to fill his role. Ramos Franco, described as a trusted colleague with extensive experience and 20 years of party membership, is expected to continue the work effectively. The coordinator, Manuel Talayero, thanked his colleagues for their efforts and publicly bid farewell to the outgoing president of the Board of Directors.

Secretary of Environment, Julia Álvarez, attended the plenary session as a special guest. She commended the Green Party deputies for their work, stating, "My commitment to you is simple and firm: no proposal from this bench will go unanswered, and we will work to close pending issues in the shortest possible time." She also views the upcoming reporting on the second year of the government's administration not as a mere formality, but as an opportunity to continue collaborating.
