Mexico City joins national reforestation drive with activities at eight sites

Mexico City is joining the National Reforestation Campaign this Sunday, August 9, with simultaneous activities planned across the country. The capital's efforts will focus on eight distinct locations within various boroughs, aiming to contribute significantly to the recovery and protection of its vital forest ecosystems.

The Secretariat of Environment (Sedema) announced that the reforestation events will commence at 8:00 AM. The chosen sites include Sierra de Santa Catarina “El Zapote” in Tláhuac, San Bartolo Ameyalco in Álvaro Obregón, San Mateo Tlaltenango in Cuajimalpa, San Miguel and Santo Tomás Ajusco in Tlalpan, Santa Ana Tlacotenco in Milpa Alta, and two locations in Xochimilco: Ejido de San Gregorio Atlapulco and San Gregorio Atlapulco Cerril. The Sierra de Guadalupe in Gustavo A. Madero is also a designated site.

Sedema emphasized the critical link between forest protection and the conservation of water resources and biodiversity. By undertaking these reforestation efforts, the city aims to secure a healthier environmental future for its inhabitants. Residents are encouraged to join the brigades at these various points throughout the city to actively participate in the conservation of Mexico City's forests and rich biodiversity.
