Mexico City mayor reapplies closure seals, alleges corruption in construction dispute

Miguel Hidalgo Mayor Mauricio Tabe personally oversaw the reapplication of closure seals at a construction site on Moliere 88, following their unauthorized removal. Tabe, accompanied by officials from the Government and Legal Affairs Directorate, stated that the site had been previously suspended due to a lack of demolition permits. He criticized the Administrative Justice Tribunal for removing the seals, emphasizing his administration's commitment to enforcing regulations. "We are not playing around, we are not simulating, we are acting to ensure the law is followed," Tabe declared. The mayor urged the Mexico City Attorney General's Office to investigate the matter, as well as over 30 other complaints his administration has filed against developers for violating closure seals on irregular construction projects. Tabe specifically pointed to a four-level building with six apartments that was authorized for demolition by the previous Morena administration between 2019 and 2020. He alleged that this demolition erased evidence, facilitating a change in land use to build 11 new homes across up to eight floors. "The complicity of Morena officials with the developer is very clear," Tabe stated, confirming that formal complaints have been filed against the former officials involved in what he termed a "deal."
