Mexico City Metro Line 12 columns painted for 2026 World Cup

As Mexico City gears up to co-host the 2026 FIFA World Cup, an elevated section of the Metro's Line 12 is receiving a colorful makeover. Workers are actively painting concrete columns along the stretch of the line that runs from Mixcoac to Tláhuac. The pillars are being transformed with vibrant hues of purple, orange, and aqua green, signaling the city's embrace of the upcoming international football tournament.

Visible near the Lomas Estrella station, crews have been observed installing scaffolding and applying paint to the structures. In addition to the colorful designs, the phrase “La pelota vuelve a casa” (The ball is coming home) is being emblazoned on the columns, accompanied by the official FIFA logo. These artistic interventions are part of a wider initiative to enhance the urban landscape in anticipation of the global sporting event.

According to workers at the site, the painting project is planned to cover the elevated portions of the line.
