Mexico City: Protests planned for August 25 demand justice and rights

Mexico City is set to host a series of marches and gatherings on August 25, with various groups advocating for a range of social and political issues. The demonstrations highlight ongoing demands for justice, human rights, and policy reform across the capital.

The day's events include a concentration by the group Siembra Cultura at the Plaza de Lectura José Saramago, focusing on reliable information about cannabis, risk reduction, and user well-being. Later, the collective Las Tonantzin plans a protest at the Coordinación Territorial Iztapalapa 10 regarding an alleged physical contact incident involving their leader.

The Unión de Juventud Revolucionaria de México will gather at the Secretaría de Gobernación to demand justice for compañeros who were allegedly assassinated and criminalized for defending rights to work and land. They also call for an end to aggressions against members of the Frente Popular Revolucionario.

Additionally, the Comité por la Libertad de Ernesto Ruffo will hold a press conference at the Fiscalía General de la República, seeking respect for due process and a fair trial for former Baja California governor Ernesto Ruffo, requesting his house arrest instead of pre-trial detention. The initiative Libertad para Morir aims to collect signatures at the UNAM Faculty of Philosophy and Letters for a citizen initiative supporting medical aid in dying legislation.

Other planned activities include a manifestation by Plataforma 420 at the Monumento a la Madre and Gran Canal, focusing on cannabis rights and workshops, and an all-day event by Regeneración Sindical at the Instituto para Devolver al Pueblo lo Robado to collect signatures against the general secretary of the Mexican Electricians' Union.
