Mexico City Mayor Orders Talks on Roma Neighborhood Heritage Protection

Mexico City Mayor Clara Brugada has directed the secretary of Planning, Enrique Irazoque, to engage with residents of the Roma neighborhood. This initiative follows a proposal to declare Roma Norte and Sur as Artistic Monuments Zones, a move intended to safeguard the area's architectural heritage.

Brugada stated, "I will ask the secretary of Territorial Planning to speak with the residents; that we can understand their proposals well, what they are proposing, and what the city has to say, it will do so, of course. We must talk with them first." She made these remarks on Monday during a press conference.

The proposal was announced on August 19 by the citizen group "Salvemos la Ciudad" (Let's Save the City). The group seeks the designation for these neighborhoods within the Cuauhtémoc borough and has requested Mayor Brugada's intervention to establish an institutional framework for protecting the zone.
