Mexico City's Ecobici expansion decision postponed to Tuesday

The expansion of Mexico City's Ecobici bike-sharing service to the boroughs of Iztacalco, Iztapalapa, and Tlalpan has been delayed. The Ministry of Mobility (Semovi) announced that the final decision on the international public tender, initially scheduled for August 17, has been postponed to August 18.

Semovi stated that the deferral is to allow for a thorough review of the submitted proposals, in accordance with Article 43, Section II of the Law of Acquisitions for the Federal District. This detailed examination is crucial to ensure all requirements are met before declaring a winner. The ministry emphasized that if the process is declared void due to non-compliance, a new public tender will be issued, and direct awarding will not occur.

The tender, launched on August 7, aims to extend Ecobici's reach to new areas. The cost for the bidding documents was 100,000 pesos. The deadline to acquire these documents was August 9, with the proposal presentation and opening taking place on August 14. The original announcement of the winner was set for August 17.

This expansion is part of a broader plan to increase Ecobici's presence across the city. While Iztacalco, Iztapalapa, and Tlalpan are the initial focus for this phase, the service is also slated to expand to Álvaro Obregón, Azcapotzalco, Benito Juárez, Coyoacán, Cuauhtémoc, and Miguel Hidalgo.
