Mexico City to Bolster Security, Limit Access at Angel of Independence for Mexico vs. England Match

The Mexico City government is implementing strengthened access controls and a significant security operation around the Angel of Independence for the July 5 match between Mexico and England. The goal is to ensure the safety of fans gathering to watch the game in public spaces across the capital.

Capital authorities announced that over 40,000 public servants will be deployed for the event. This includes more than 17,000 police officers and an additional 24,000 personnel from Civil Protection, the Fire Department, Emergency Services, Health, and other local administration departments. A substantial contingent of 14,000 public servants, comprising 6,000 police officers and 8,000 from various government areas, will be stationed along Paseo de la Reforma alone.

"Today we announce a strengthening of access controls to the Angel, a security perimeter at the Angel of Independence and other celebration spaces," stated the capital's leader. "A security perimeter has been designed around the Angel of Independence." Authorities anticipate large crowds arriving early and will close access once the area reaches its maximum capacity. Attendees will then be directed to other available celebration zones along Reforma.

The message from the government is clear: entry to the Angel of Independence or the Zócalo is free, but capacity is limited. "Entry is free, but capacity is limited, for the safety of everyone," officials emphasized. A permanent monitoring system will be active in the area to manage the situation effectively.
