Mexico Deploys 5,000 Extra Security Personnel to Sinaloa's Southern Zone Amidst Rising Violence

Authorities are deploying an additional five thousand security personnel to the southern region of Sinaloa, Mexico, in response to an increase in violence. The measure aims to bolster surveillance and prevention efforts in an area experiencing heightened insecurity.

In Mazatlán, a dedicated intelligence unit will be established. This unit is designed to rapidly identify individuals responsible for acts of violence, thereby enhancing the state's capacity to maintain peace and public order. The deployment is part of a broader strategy to ensure the safety of both residents and the significant number of tourists visiting the region.

The reinforcement comes as part of the "Verano Seguro" (Safe Summer) operation. This existing initiative already involves over 18,000 federal, state, and municipal security forces, along with emergency services. The additional personnel will enhance the operation's reach and effectiveness during the peak summer vacation period.

The decision was made during a meeting of the Peace and Security Construction Board, attended by interim governor Yeraldine Bonilla Valverde. The strategy for the summer vacation period was evaluated, and the need for increased security in the southern zone was identified. The governor emphasized the importance of continued collaboration between all three levels of government to guarantee the safety and tranquility of Sinaloa's families and visitors.
