Mexico deploys operation to safeguard 40,000 pilgrims heading to Basilica of Guadalupe

Thousands of pilgrims are making their way to the Basilica of Guadalupe, with authorities in the State of Mexico implementing a large-scale operation to ensure their safety. Approximately 40,000 individuals, originating from Querétaro, are undertaking the journey, divided into two main contingents: a female group of about 16,000 and a male group of around 24,000.

This operation, now in its 64th iteration for women and 136th for men, involves medical attention, sanitary surveillance, and disease prevention measures. Officials from both the Querétaro and State of Mexico governments are collaborating closely. Celina Castañeda de la Lanza, the Health Secretary for the State of Mexico, highlighted the coordination between the two states to provide necessary support.

The governments of Querétaro and the State of Mexico are coordinating to provide attention to the thousands of pilgrims.

Prior to the pilgrimage, meetings were held to reinforce sanitary measures for food, beverages, and water, including guidance for vendors. María Martina Pérez Rendón, the Health Secretary of Querétaro, expressed gratitude for the cooperation and facilities provided by the State of Mexico for the pilgrims' transit. The pilgrimage is set to conclude on July 26 with the expected arrival of all participants at the Basilica of Guadalupe.
