Mexico's Profepa Secures Seven Exotic Animals in Zacatecas Operation

Federal agents have taken custody of seven exotic animals found in a corral in Jiménez del Teul, Zacatecas. The group included five mouflon sheep and two llamas, all of which are now under the care of the Attorney General's Office for Environmental Protection (Profepa).

The operation, a collaborative effort involving the Federal and State Attorney General's offices and over 150 members of various security corps, aimed to safeguard the animals. Experts noted that the presence and uncontrolled reproduction of exotic species can disrupt local ecosystems.

Profepa confirmed that the animals, identified as four female and one male mouflon sheep, along with an adult and a juvenile llama, appeared to be in good physical and nutritional condition at the time of the intervention. Specialized personnel from the Fresnillo City Council and a management unit assisted in safely containing and preparing the animals for transport.

The seven exotic animals have been transferred to Fresnillo for further evaluation and specialized care. Profepa will continue to collaborate with security institutions on similar operations involving wildlife in Zacatecas, contributing to environmental protection alongside security efforts in the state.
