Mexico's SEP announces 2026-2027 school calendar with key holiday dates

Students in Mexico are set to return to classes for the 2026-2027 school year on August 31, marking the implementation of the new calendar from the Secretariat of Public Education (SEP). As the academic year commences, attention turns to the upcoming breaks and key dates for students and parents.

The next significant period of rest after the summer vacation will be the winter break. This break is scheduled to begin on Monday, December 21, with students returning to classrooms on January 7, 2027. Following this, the Easter holidays are planned from March 22 to April 5, 2027.

In addition to these major vacation periods, the SEP calendar includes several long weekends tied to national holidays. These breaks offer students and families opportunities to observe significant dates. Notable holidays include Mexican Independence Day on September 16, 2026, Day of the Dead on November 2, the commemoration of the Mexican Revolution on November 16, Constitution Day on February 1, 2027, and Benito Juárez's birthday on March 15, 2027. The anniversary of the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 2027, also falls within the academic year.
