Mexico State police assault EL UNIVERSAL photographer during coverage in Ecatepec

Elements of the State of Mexico Security Secretariat assaulted EL UNIVERSAL photographer Luis Enrique Camacho González during journalistic coverage in Ecatepec. The incident occurred while Camacho was documenting a fatal motorcycle accident.

According to the photographer's account, an officer identified by his uniform as A. González. R. began to attack him and damage his camera equipment. Camacho stated he had respected the security cordon established by the police but was nevertheless subjected to physical aggression, including a kick and being grabbed by the neck, even after identifying himself as a journalist.

Ricardo Cotero from Internal Affairs of the Secretariat of Security of the State of Mexico has contacted Camacho to commence an investigation into the assault. The incident highlights ongoing concerns about the safety of journalists covering events in Mexico.
