Mexico to Report on Reduced Highway Robberies, Unveils New Surveillance Plan

Mexico's President Claudia Sheinbaum announced that a comprehensive report on the reduction of highway robberies will be presented on August 11, coinciding with the monthly crime incidence report. The security cabinet will provide specific details on the strategies employed by the National Guard to combat these crimes.

Sheinbaum highlighted progress on key routes such as Mexico-Querétaro and Mexico-Puebla, noting that the National Guard has launched operations like Balam and Escalón to enhance security in other states, including San Luis Potosí. The announcement aims to encourage more transporters to participate in these security initiatives.

On Tuesday, we will address the issue of highway robbery, how highway robbery has decreased. There are still highways where we need greater presence, because we must say it.

Furthermore, the government is implementing a nationwide video surveillance system with a centralized monitoring center. The installation of cameras is underway, and the system will gradually incorporate more highways. The project, conceived with input from former Mexico City C5 director Juan Manuel García Ortegón, is designed to bolster security and provide real-time monitoring across the country's road network.
