Michelle Bolsonaro Rules Out Alliance With Ciro Gomes in Ceará

Michelle Bolsonaro, former first lady, has definitively ruled out supporting Ciro Gomes in his bid for the governorship of Ceará. This stance comes despite the withdrawal of Senator Eduardo Girão, who was Michelle's preferred candidate. The political maneuvering has created a rift within the PL party, particularly between Michelle and Senator Flávio Bolsonaro.

Michelle had initially backed Girão, believing him to be the most right-aligned candidate in the state. However, Girão is now set to be Romeu Zema's running mate for the presidency. Despite this shift, Michelle remains firm in her refusal to endorse any other candidate, especially Gomes. Allies report she has made her position clear.

In the past, Michelle publicly criticized the PL's premature endorsement of Gomes. She later met with party leadership and issued a statement indicating a search for a "viable alternative that respects the values and principles of the conservative right." She reiterated her criticism of the Ceará alliance in a video, emphasizing her right to disagree with a partnership involving someone she views as an enemy of her husband's legacy. "I have the right to find an alliance with someone who has always declared himself an enemy of their father wrong. The right to be consistent with the values I believe in. I will not trade values for opportunistic political pragmatism," she stated.

While Michelle has accepted Flávio Bolsonaro's apology and may participate in his campaign, this does not signal an agreement with the PL's state-level alliances. She previously expressed strong disapproval of Gomes' potential support for Ronaldo Caiado, stating, "I warned that this gentleman, whose party helped make my husband ineligible, would not offer his support. Still, he wanted the votes of the Bolsonaristas. Unfortunately, the right in Ceará is sold out."
