Michoacán teenager charged after arrest with two machine guns and loaded magazines

A judge in Michoacán ordered preventive detention for a teenager arrested during an operation in Ecuandureo, where authorities said they seized two machine guns and other weapons.

The juvenile, identified as José “N,” faces proceedings over the alleged possession of a firearm restricted to Mexico’s armed forces. The ruling followed the continuation of his initial hearing, after prosecutors from the Federal Attorney General’s Office presented evidence.

The judge in the Adolescent Control Court for the Zamora region also granted prosecutors one month to carry out a complementary investigation.

The arrest followed simultaneous operations in the Michoacán municipalities of Tanhuato and Ecuandureo. Special Forces personnel from the Defense Ministry and members of the National Guard, working with other authorities, carried out searches in the communities of Tinaja de Vargas and Colesio.

Authorities said they detained several people during the operations. The teenager was allegedly found with two machine guns, loaded firearm magazines in different calibers and grenades. The proceedings will continue while prosecutors develop their case.
