Miele's Smart Washing Revolution: How New Drums and Sensors Protect Clothes

Miele's Nova series washing machines introduce innovative solutions to common laundry challenges, focusing on precise detergent dispensing and gentle fabric care. Many households struggle with determining the correct amount of detergent, often relying on guesswork. This can lead to under-dosing, resulting in clothes that aren't fully cleaned and develop a grayish hue over time. Over-dosing, however, creates excessive foam that the rinse cycle cannot fully remove. The leftover detergent can stiffen fabrics, leave visible marks, and potentially cause skin irritation or allergic reactions.

Miele's "TwinDos" automatic dispensing system in the Nova series aims to eliminate this guesswork. The machine calculates the exact detergent quantity needed, considering factors like load weight, selected program, and the level of soiling. The system utilizes two components, "UltraPhase 1" for everyday dirt and "UltraPhase 2" for tougher stains, dispensing them in separate phases for maximum efficiency without excess chemicals.

Beyond detergent management, the machines also tackle fabric wear. Traditional washing machine drums use ribs to lift and mix laundry, but these can act as abrasives, causing fibers to fray and weaken over time. Miele's "InfinityCare" technology introduces a drum surface with a honeycomb structure and, crucially, removes the conventional internal ribs. This design allows a thin layer of water to cushion clothes, enabling them to glide gently. Tests show that after 5,000 wash cycles, fabrics washed in the "InfinityCare" drum lose only 3.1% of their mass, compared to 18.4% in standard drums. This gentle action is particularly beneficial for delicate, expensive, or cherished garments, potentially extending their lifespan.
