Miguel Hidalgo prepares patriotic celebration with music, tradition and security operation

Miguel Hidalgo is ready to turn its Independence Day celebration into a large public festival, with music, traditional food and a security operation designed to keep families safe.

The festivities will begin at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, September 15, at the borough’s main plaza. From the main balcony, Mayor Mauricio Tabe will lead the traditional Grito de Independencia, honoring those credited with securing Mexico’s homeland and freedom.

The borough will deploy its Blindar MH operation in coordination with Mexico City’s Secretariat of Citizen Security and the Civil Protection Directorate. Entry checkpoints will block sharp objects, firearms, alcoholic drinks, umbrellas, flagpoles, aerosols, drones, fireworks and large bags or suitcases.

This year’s theme is “Lotería of Freedom,” a concept that turns each stage into a sung card and presents the homeland as a collective game in which everyone plays for freedom. The main stage will feature the Itlatiuh and Salesiano folkloric ballets, Mariachi Camperos, an emerging rock band, Sonora Embajadores de la Cumbia Dinamita, Los Yaguaru and Paty Cantú. A second stage will host Milo La R, LC-Band, Blazzy Band, additional mariachi performances and a theatrical presentation of “Lotería of Freedom.”
