Miha Kralj: 'Surrendering to machines creates soulless music'

Miha Kralj, a significant figure in Slovenian music history known for his distinctive electronic sound, is preparing a unique musical and ambient performance for his upcoming concert at Križanke.

Kralj made a notable impact on the Slovenian music scene in the late 1970s with his unique electronic expression. His 1980 album 'Andromeda' was the first electronic album released in the former Yugoslavia, marking a new chapter in domestic music creation. His recognizable, futuristic soundscapes have captivated audiences both domestically and internationally, securing a lasting place in collective memory.

The concert, scheduled for June 28 at 9 p.m. as part of the Ljubljana Festival in Križanke, will showcase his sixty-year musical journey. He will also perform compositions from his new album, 'Galaxyz.'

Reflecting on the technological advancements in music creation between 'Andromeda' and 'Galaxyz,' Kralj noted the primitive state of synthesizers during the 'Andromeda' era, characterized by monophony and basic sound capabilities. He expressed that while technology has advanced, the core challenge remains in creating music with soul, warning against producing "dead music without soul" if one becomes entirely subservient to machines.
