Milei at Rural Exhibition: Official opening tomorrow, field hopes for beef tax cut announcement

The 138th Rural Exhibition in Palermo, Argentina, will officially open with President Javier Milei in attendance, sparking anticipation within the agricultural sector. While Economy Minister Luis Caputo stated there would be no specific announcements, citing previous reductions in taxes for wheat and barley, speculation persists about a potential announcement regarding a gradual decrease in export duties on beef.

Sources suggest a scheme similar to those implemented for soybeans, corn, sunflowers, and sorghum, which would see a reduction in taxes starting next January. However, an official source offered a non-committal "Nothing for now" when questioned on the matter. President Milei's speech is expected to align closely with the interests of the agricultural sector and acknowledge Nicolás Pino, the president of the Rural Society (SRA).

Pino is currently campaigning for re-election as SRA president against his vice president, Marcos Pereda. The exhibition's schedule includes the opening of gates at 9 a.m., with the grand champions' parade commencing at 11 a.m. The official ceremony, lasting approximately two hours, will begin with the entry of champion cattle, followed by sheep, pigs, and other prize-winning breeds. Agricultural machinery, carriages, and traditionalist delegations will also parade before the speeches.

Traditionally, speeches preceded the parade. This year's schedule change, reportedly at the government's request, mirrors a shift seen two years prior due to Milei's trip to Brazil. The presidential address itself remains under strict wraps, but it may cover key measures implemented by his administration for the sector, outline future legislative steps, and potentially announce the gradual reduction of export duties on beef starting in 2027, according to recent sector discussions. The economic team has reportedly been gathering data on production and export records within the agro-industry.
