Volkswagen Tera Becomes Brand's Best-Seller in Argentina After One Year

The Volkswagen Tera has rapidly ascended to become the German automaker's top-selling model in Argentina, a remarkable feat achieved within just one year of its market introduction. This compact SUV, also known as a crossover, secured the sixth position in overall vehicle sales during the first half of the year, moving 8,240 units, according to data from the Association of Automobile Dealerships of the Argentine Republic (Acara).

Initially, the entry-level version of the Tera was the most affordable in Volkswagen's lineup. However, a recent range reconfiguration saw the Nivus take that spot, even with a lower price point than the Polo. For July, Volkswagen, like most other automakers, increased its prices by 2% across most of its range. An exception is the Amarok pickup, produced in Pacheco, Buenos Aires, which is set to be replaced by a new generation.

The successful Tera model is offered in four distinct versions: Trend MSI MT, Comfort 170 TSi AT, Highline 170 TSi AT, and Outfit 170 TSi AT. It measures 4.151 meters in length, 1.777 meters in width, and 1.504 meters in height, with a wheelbase of 2.566 meters and a 350-liter trunk capacity. Under the hood, it features the 1.0-liter, three-cylinder 170 TSi turbocharged engine, producing 101 horsepower and 170 Nm of torque, paired with either a five-speed manual or a six-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission, both driving the front wheels.

Inside, the Tera boasts a 10-inch central multimedia system and a 10-inch digital dashboard. Key features include keyless entry and start, climate control, tire pressure monitoring, a cooled wireless phone charger, USB-C ports, front and rear parking sensors, a rearview camera, ambient lighting, and synthetic leather upholstery. Safety is comprehensive, with six airbags, Isofix anchors, hill start and descent assist, four-wheel disc brakes with ABS, ASR, EDL, EDTC, and electronic stability control as standard. The Outfit version further enhances safety with advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), including adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, driver fatigue warning, and autonomous emergency braking.
