Milei records Malvinas address with Cabinet after returning from Chile

Javier Milei returned from Chile and went straight to Casa Rosada to record a nationally televised address on the Malvinas, in a production designed to give the message maximum impact.

The speech, scheduled for 9 p.m., will focus on Argentina’s sovereignty over the islands and on what the government describes as illegal or suspicious foreign activity in nearby waters and territory. The areas cited include hydrocarbons and fishing. The possibility of additional content had not been ruled out.

Milei arrived at Balcarce 50 shortly before 4 p.m. under heavy security. Officials initially said recording would begin at 5:20 p.m., then revised that information, saying the start had been moved to 6:53 p.m. Government officials left after 7:10 p.m. The address, to be delivered only by the president, was expected to last roughly 20 minutes.

The Cabinet was assembled for the recording. Those involved included Cabinet Chief Diego Santilli, Foreign Minister Pablo Quirno, presidential general secretary Karina Milei, Chamber of Deputies President Martín Menem and Senate government bloc leader Patricia Bullrich. Quirno and Karina Milei arrived with the president, while ministers came in official vehicles.

The presidential adviser Santiago Caputo and his teams helped prepare the speech, according to the report, while the Foreign Ministry and the State Intelligence Secretariat also contributed. The address followed a series of gestures by U.S. President Donald Trump, who accused England of behaving badly as a U.S. ally. Before the recording, Milei met Nobel economics laureate James Heckman and Ucema rector Carola Pessino.
