Military launches fresh offensive against N’West terrorists

Nigeria's Joint Task Force North-West, operating as Operation Fansan Yamma, has initiated a significant offensive named "Operation Clean Sweep IV" targeting terrorists and armed criminal groups across the region. This operation integrates coordinated ground and air maneuvers aimed at dismantling terrorist networks, disrupting their logistical supply lines, and preventing the establishment of new operational bases.

Recent actions include clearance operations by troops in suspected terrorist enclaves within the Dutsinma Local Government Area of Katsina State. These efforts reportedly compelled terrorists to abandon their positions and retreat into surrounding forests. Simultaneously, the Air Component of Operation Fansan Yamma conducted precision strikes against terrorists gathered on motorcycles in the Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State, neutralizing many and forcing survivors to flee.

Lt Col Aliyu Danja, the Media Information Officer for the Joint Task Force, stated that the military is focused on dismantling the Lakurawa terrorist network and preventing its infiltration into Nigeria. The operation also aims to block terrorist access to border areas, which are allegedly used for movement and logistics. Furthermore, the offensive will target terrorist activities near the River Niger and Kainji Lake National Park to prevent their use as launching points for attacks.

Operation Clean Sweep IV underscores the military's commitment to sustained pressure against extremist elements. The Theatre Command reiterated its dedication to protecting civilian populations, preserving Nigeria's territorial integrity, and thwarting any attempts by terrorists to regroup or establish footholds in the North-West.
