Milivojević on Police Vehicles in Valjevo: Like a Police Fair, Not a Student Protest

Srđan Milivojević, a Serbian opposition politician and president of the Democratic Party, described the significant police presence at a student protest in Valjevo as disproportionate. Arriving at the scene, Milivojević observed approximately 30 police vehicles and officers in full gear, remarking that it appeared more like a police trade show than a student demonstration.

Milivojević interpreted this extensive police deployment as a sign of panic within the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) and its leader, Aleksandar Vučić. He suggested that the authorities fear losing power and facing repercussions for their past actions. "It is obvious there is great panic on the part of the SNS, and they are afraid, with good reason, that they will lose power and be held accountable for what they have done," Milivojević stated.

The politician also vowed that the students' actions would not be forgotten once they achieve their goals. "There will be no amnesty and no forgetting," he declared. Milivojević announced he would participate in a "performance" at 6:30 PM to send a message to the regime and the prosecution. He also referenced a criminal complaint he filed regarding police conduct during a protest in Valjevo the previous year, noting that 25 out of 27 victims had been interviewed.
