Millionaire influencer 'Athena' confirmed dead after being lured to Philippines and kidnapped

The promising life of 'Athena' Kong Limei, a popular influencer and former Miss World Macau contestant, has been tragically cut short. She disappeared in Manila in 2023, and after nearly three years, it has been confirmed that she was murdered. The influencer was allegedly deceived by her close friend, Li Yifei, who invited her to the Philippines under the pretense of companionship.

According to reports, Li Yifei invited Kong Limei to the Philippines, claiming she was going through a difficult time and needed support. However, shortly after Kong Limei's arrival, Li Yifei canceled her own travel plans and provided Kong Limei's flight details to a criminal group. Kong Limei was then taken into custody by an international crime syndicate upon landing.

Her family reportedly raised a substantial ransom of 5 million Chinese yuan (approximately $700,000 USD) in an attempt to secure her release. However, these efforts were in vain, as she was ultimately killed. Li Yifei has since disappeared, deleting her social media accounts and evading authorities. While one accomplice, Li Na, was apprehended in South Korea in September 2024, and the alleged mastermind, Liu Hanwen, was extradited from the United States to China in July 2024, Li Yifei remains at large, reportedly outside of China.

The case has sent shockwaves through the online community, highlighting the dangers of trusting too easily and the ruthlessness of transnational criminal organizations.
